Friends of the Pedaler

The people at the right, have over the years, days, whatever, collectively helped us in one way or another from looking like total asses. Sometimes they were successful, sometimes not. But our gratitude goes out to them either way.

In this list, you will find some of the finest examples of folks at the top of their fields. It is quite an eclectic and sometimes eccentric circle of friends.

Everyone say "Hi!" to Chuck (picture on left), excuse him if he doesn't wave back, 'cause he is on rope at the beginning of an 876 foot Rappel on Bridge Day a few years back.

Chuck is one of our consultants and the webmaster for the shop. Chuck also is one of the rope instructors and course developers that teaches the high angle end of the world for the NRTI Programs offered through Hocking College. He is also one of the Certified SPRAT Technician that comes from the store. Chuck is a seasoned diver and deputy director for The Rome Township Special Operations Unit, as well. In his spare time from here, he is a professional firefighter with the city of Athens, aside from his obvious duties, he instructs CPR for the Professional Rescuer, First Aid, Rope Rescue and anything else that may be in his realm of knowledge for the department.

Rumor has it that he recently had a dive that lasted 5 hours(!) (picture at lower right), although it was at the Ohio State University Hyperbaric Chamber on a table 6 profile. Chuck is able and willing to answer any of your questions that you may have on anything that we sell or do, so drop him a line if you would like.  This email address is being protected from spambots. This is a direct result of diving until your elbows hurt. This, as stated above, is a hyperbaric chamber at OSU Hospital in Columbus. This was considered an "undeserved hit". They term it that way for Chuck was well within his non-decompression limits and had no fast ascents. This is not the way to find out how beneficial being a DAN member is. If you ever wondered what a chamber ride cost... this one was over $4300. The DAN Preferred Membership costs $100 per year. I think he got his money's worth out of it.

Jon Tobin - Owner

This picture (left) is of Jon is on the world famous New River Gorge Bridge, in Fayetteville, West Virginia. This is considered a long drop at 876 feet.

Jon is the owner of The Pedaler & The Packer. Other feathers in his cap include Lead Rope Instructor for Hocking College's prestigious NRTI program, SPRAT Technician, Director of The Rome Township Special Operations Unit plus a volunteer firefighter for them, not to mention that he is an Instructor Trainer for three different diving agencies, PDIC, IDEA, and PSDA.

On the right is a nice picture of Tobin's truck when he got it stuck while accessing a site for a really long zip line that we set up for an adventure race.

If you would like to yak at Jon, drop him a line or This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. .
